Mahakavi Bhudhardasji

Mahakavi Bhudhardas Ji Among Jain poets in the Hindi language, the name of Mahakavi Bhudhardas Ji is noteworthy. He was a resident of Agra and belonged to the Khandelwal community. In addition to being a poet and scholar, Bhudhardas Ji was also a skilled orator. He was born in Vikram Samvat 1750 (1693 CE) and passed away in 1806 CE.

Bhudhardas Ji delivered daily scriptural discourses at the Shahganj Jain Temple in Agra.

His notable works include:

  • Pārśva Purāa
  • Jain Shatak
  • Bhoodhar Pad Sangrah

In Pārśva Purāa, he narrates the nine previous lives of Lord Pārśvanātha. In Jain Shatak, through 107 verses composed in various poetic meters, he beautifully and simply describes themes such as old age, the futility of worldly existence, the power of time, selfishness, and the intense austerities of Digambara monks.

Bhoodhar Pad Sangrah contains numerous verses on diverse subjects. Additionally, many spiritual hymns composed by Bhudhardas Ji are also available.
